The last time we took you to the Brenta river to discover the Riviera district and now we bring you to the Marche region, precisely in the Fermo district, also known as the Fermano Maceratese district.
Marchigian district: an ancient know-how
The shoe production started XV century when the shoes were produced and distributed in the open-air markets. Already at that time, the trade associations had left a testimony of their presence and their flourishing activity.
However, in a more organized and complex way this district was formed in the first decades of the XVII century. The Fermo area is characterized for the cloth or leather wedges production. Soon the production was been appreciated not only in the territory of Fermo but also in the Vatican State and in the Kingdom of Naples.
However, despite the centuries-old tradition of footwear, the district has been slow to express its real potential until the 60s mixing great value at extremely competitive prices.
Anni '60: economical booming and district success
The post-war years have awakened the entrepreneurial spirit of the whole of Italy and the growing demand has pushed many companies of the Fermano to collaborate with in order to be competitive. The Fermo propose on the market has a particular positioning: quality at a sustainable price for a wide market band, managing to combine the need for quality and style with a growing medium class willingness to pay.
Fermo district: quality and upper-level brand
The district of the Macerata area is today characterized by the presence of some of the top of mind Made in Italy brands and by a creative impulse that has pushed the design in different directions from the "classic" without losing the taste for beauty.

In few decades Fermo district has been able to capitalize its know-how and the ability to meet the market needs even though in recent years it has suffered a contraction in the production of shoe factories.
The pairs of shoes produced compared to the '60s are less, but the global value is increased in a great way. An example? Tod's with rubber bumps: nowadays are an icon all over the world.
Within a few years, the production structure began to take on the characteristics of the district with a high degree of specialization in the production of all the components of the shoe: heels, uppers, welts, laces and everything needed for the packaging of a shoe. The Fermano district is one of the most important in Italy even today and stands out from the others for its ability to produce medium-high segment footwear for all categories of consumers (woman, man, child). In the district a great importance is that of the heels: in the Macerata area, there is the highest concentration of production of this component.
